Printing With T Jet
Since the 1980s, the popularity of ink jet printers is continuously increasing. It also helps that the prices for the printers are decreasing and becoming more affordable. Presently, ink jet printers are the most affordable and serviceable printers around. But these printers aren't just for paper or banner printing. With the introduction of the T Jet technology, ink jet printers are now used for printing on fabrics and t-shirts.
A T Jet printer works by having the design or image done through a graphics program in the computer. The colors, tones, and contrasts are adjusted and manipulated through the program. The designs are then printed directly on the fabric or shirt. Water-based ink is used on T Jet prints to avoid the clumping and cracking of the designs when exposed to extreme heat and cold. The printed images and fabrics are passed on a heat press or conveyor for drying to avoid ink runs. No added treatment is necessary after drying the ink.
More printing shops are doing away with the customary screen printing because T Jet technology offers more advantages. Fast production, quality printing, and design flexibility, are some of the reasons most printing businesses give for choosing the T Jet. There is also less manpower and equipment maintenance involved. However, they still admit that when it comes to bulk orders or large printing jobs, the T Jet is at a disadvantage over screen printing. T Jet inks are also more expensive than the traditional printing inks. The electricity cost for computer use and conveyor dryer also adds to the expenses. Maybe improvements in the future will eliminate these problems, but for now, T Jet technology is best used on small-scale print jobs.
