How To Coat A Screen
Screen printing is an activity that can be both fun and profitable, if not messy. Imagine all the things that can be enhanced with screen printing! This printing technique is usually done on printing T-shirts and other fabrics, but it can also be used on materials like metal and glass. As long as it is a flat surface, the screen printing job can do it.
Beginners on screen printing may initially find the activity grubby, but in truth, screen printing just needs some time getting used to. Perfecting the craft through practice also helps. One of the most basic know-hows in screenprinting is coating the screen.
Now, coating the screen is not the easiest job to do, so newbies should be really patient. Beginners usually start on newly bought screens, but reclaimed screens can still be used, provided that they are not damaged. Degreasing the screen is the pre-coating process. New screens need to be degreased first before it becomes ready for use. Using water, the first step in degreasing is wetting the screen. Then spray a little quantity of the degreaser on the mesh screen surface. Scrub the two screen sides lightly, then let it dry. Just be sure to let the screen dry in a dust-free room, otherwise, little particles would settle on the screen's mesh surface.
In the coating process, a scoop coater and an emulsion is needed. First step is to load the emulsion onto a scoop coater. Holding the screen slightly slanted, grip scoop coater horizontally against the screen's bottom squeegee side. Then, tip scoop coater just enough to get the emulsion onto it and pull upward until it is distributed evenly on its surface. Upon reaching the screen's top part, tip scoop coater back. Be cautious not to drip emulsion. Repeat the process for the screen's two sides.
